Because I possess a multi-faceted personality which tends to express itself in extremes, my body of work has followed suit in being quite varied. While I naturally gravitate to exploring themes of fear and emotional strife, I am also moved by concepts of mythology and the fantastical. I greatly enjoy working across media but have more recently settled into painting, both digital and traditional. I see a blank canvas as a comfortable place to let go of the pressures of technical perfection, allowing me to safely explore and discover my innermost inspirations which are expressed in a free flowing, almost unconscious manner. With much of my professional work in digital illustration focusing heavily on repetitive and minute technical detail, the departure from that into the world of endless color and possibilities is liberating, often with cathartic results for me as a person.
In my work, I incorporate to the use of shade and the playful blending of hues to capture a mood or to lead the viewer’s eye in a certain direction while also paying attention to texture and balance to help achieve the desired result. I am particularly drawn to the concept of creating work as a series as I feel this affords an opportunity to expand on an initial concept or idea more completely.
