2020 Exhibition > James Weaver

Self harm and PTSD are among the mental issues that can arise when one's fortitude is in complete shambles. This series is meant to be a sincere recreation of sexual assault and the effect it has on a person. The assault isn’t the whole story, what comes after can be immensely darker. This body of work is meant to accomplish two things; first to empower both myself and others, and second to spread awareness about the aftermath and those affected. A diverse array of people are shown because the unfortunate and real truth is that this can happen to anyone. It can be painful for those suffering, because many feel they can’t tell anyone and that to get past this trauma they must forget it ever happened. Others begin to hate themselves and feel disgusted with their bodies. While some of these photos might be jarring I urge viewers not to look away. For those that have been affected, I hope this provides some level of comfort and that one day you can turn this momentary weakness into a strength to help others.
