My work captures musicians and public figures in their glory, and is a way of paying homage. At the same time, I try to relate these people to myself and use their oil portraits as a reflection of my own emotion and energy. Color and detail play an important role in capturing the essence of the emotion or the mood that I am trying to convey. In order to do this, I start out with finding reference photos that stand out to me, and this step is the most important because I want something beautiful rather than plain. I want something that when painted, it feels important. I then translate these images onto canvas using oil paint and oil painting mediums, creating vibrant portraits that speak to the viewer.
