My work is a visual rendering of my imagination. The compositions I create are sporadic in that the subject matter, technique, and color palette are constantly changing which reflects my imagination. I am drawn to the idea of unpredictability. I will add new techniques or brush strokes, new color, and change the subject matter to make the work. I do not follow any type of rules for a certain style. My work uses various types of mediums: painting, silkscreen printing, drawing, etc. My preferred medium is oil on canvas as it has a slow drying process which allows me to change the composition at my pace. I have painted a series of themes with the inspiration of impulsive imagination.
In the past, I painted a series of landscapes with a surreal twist in which the colors of nature are altered and appear “unearthly”. I have also painted a series of 3-dimensional spherical shapes including forms of the human body such as hands and eyes. This series had elements of surrealism from combining the subject matter of space and the human figure. Most recently, I created a series of portraits that fully come from the imagination. I am fascinated by the idea of creating the image of a person from a thought.
As my central idea has changed in the past, my choice of technique, color palette, and subject matter is ever changing. I create these compositions to eliminate myself from reality to create something that is uniquely my own.
