2021 Spring Exhibition > Page Beckerman

In my work I hope to produce subject matter that creates discomfort while also normalizing it within the piece.
All of my pieces are oil paint on canvas. I found that oil paint is the easiest to blend with because it stays wet for days after laying it on the canvas.
I want to challenge the art world: to paint images that haunt people, to make something horrifying and abnormal to everyone viewing the painting, but completely normal to the people or creatures in the painting. I want this to make the viewer question what is and is not normal in the real world, and what should and should not be. I want to appeal to a new type of audience. An audience that has come to accept and find interest in the uncanny.
