As not only an artist, but as a person, I am fascinated by how human beings experience our world around us. Particularly, I am interested in these private moments we often experience when we do not have to alter how we come across to other people. Through the use of oil and acrylic paint as well as markers on canvas, I experiment with realism, hints of surrealistic elements, and harsh perspectives to focus on these sensual, euphoric, and sometimes irrational emotions we confront when no one is looking. In my work, I play with vibrant color palettes to suggest heightened sensations and moments of almost hypnotic and ethereal states of mind. I also incorporate rough text where words are sometimes coherent and visible. Other times they are blurred together and barely legible to further my emphasis on the mundane stream of consciousness which could lead to panic or anxiety caused by our own inner monologue. I take inspiration from the bright colors of psychedelic artwork of the 1960’s, the unusual perspectives and realistic body shapes of Jenny Saville’s paintings, and the study of the human mind in modern television shows like Criminal Minds to formulate my own ideas on how we as human beings experience our world.
