I am a designer and printmaker that incorporates allegorical imagery and narratives with text to tell a story. I am interested in investigating the bridge between my imaginative childhood fantasies and the evolution of my conscious awareness into the reality of ruthlessness that we live within now as a way to document and to explore compassion. I utilize motifs from the natural world in order to evoke the organic state of emotion as a way for me to preserve my memories and explore my curiosities.
I am inspired by the didactic aesthetic of traditional scientific illustrations because they are able to function as decorative works of art as well as an educational reference. I employ this style to visually inform and communicate clues and meaning that convey a symbolic and dimensional exploration of awareness and compassion. It is important to me that my work contains imagery that is easily recognizable. The use of subtle text to complement this detailed imagery provides a hierarchy of information to create an illusion that a puzzle needs to be solved.
I am intrigued by using flora and fauna illustrations to emphasize the idea of staying grounded. I used muted colors and place these images onto an empty void so I do not create too much distraction from the message I am conveying. My goal for my work is to be able to visually record my conscious evolvement as a push for others to move out of their imaginative world into the realm of our vicious reality. By representing recognizable imagery with subtle details, I confront humanity’s lack of compassion and the harmful impact that this has on our world.
