2021 Spring Exhibition > Jennifer Stewart

In my work, I strive to confront my personal struggles with mental health and vulnerability. I am interested in how feelings of loneliness and wanting to be understood can be expressed through a combination of oil painting and digital art.

In my paintings, all of the elements of a normal universe exist: Landscape, lighting, and figures are represented, but it is not quite right and one needs a closer look. With a combination of a fantastical color palette and alien-like figures, a whole new world is created.

For me, these figures are not alien: They are a form of self portrait. Not a physically accurate portrait, but a mental portrait. My work allows me to visualize my inner struggle in an attempt to make a connection with viewers.
